Bangsi Hrefnasson
Bangsi (pronounced roughly "BAHN'-sih", or just "bouncy" if your mouth lacks Icelandic annunciation compatibility) bears an Icelandic name meaning "teddy bear". He also responds to "fancy", or just about anything else that you call him as long as it has approximately two syllables and is accompanied by an excited tone of voice. When asked to comment on this, Bangsi said, "Well it's sort of like, part of my art... see, some people paint, some sculpt, and that's real nice and all, but my art is like, people, you know? So I try to encourage people to be excited about seeing each other, you know? Like, I wag my tail a lot. When my mom leaves, I just mope around for a long time or wait by the door. We're connected, you know? So the whole name-response jig is like my own sort of post-modern take, or like, commentary, on the whole modernist domestic-mammalian-nomenclature system - like I guess I'm trying to ask, "What's in a name?", you know? Maybe none of us really respond to our names, or maybe we do but it's just a lie, right? As for me, you know, I respond to love."
Bangsi immigrated to the United States from Iceland in 2004. His works in progress include "Baring my teeth while rough housing" and "Untitled". |
